Maybe being a dotard, but peak Trump Scumbag for me is his call for the lynching of the Central Park Five in 89. To be far fairer than he’ll ever in a hundred lifetimes deserved, but it was reasonable to assume they were guilty — a giving the authorities some benefit of the doubt, an assumption that there was better reason to pick them up just because they were young, Black and there. I feel like I was aware in 1989 of problems with the case (lack of DNA evidence, coerced confessions), though that could be wishful false memory, but either way there is no reason for a private citizen to buy an inflammatory ad like that. It was so none of his fucking business.
Eh, the ad was an exercise in dick waving. He did a few times in the years leading up to bankrupting the casinos by taking out too much money for him and/or the Atlantic City mobsters. His claim that he could resolve the nuclear arms thing in half an hour or an hour was part of that period’s Don.

Its very popular to dismiss Trump as "stupid" incapable of learning or retaining knowledge, but I contend that he just has a very narrow set of subjects he cares deeply about besides himself, and the things he does care about all reflect glory and power back to him. Being a "builder" is one of them. He knows enough to know expensive stuff is good. Caraccas marble is good, gold is good, fancy columns, chandeliers, deep carpeting, plush curtains. Vegas casino floor taste. He demonstrates an apprentice-level knowledge of materials and processes. He's neither knowledgeable or ignorant of construction, just familiar. And this is something he cares deeply about based on repeated statements. Hes a mook from Queens.

He "develops" hotels and resorts, or did before his latest job. He knows who to hire, what they're supposed to do, and how to screw them over. This is far more than he knows about economics, diplomacy, or politics. He is President because he accidently fell into a symbiotic relationship with the Republican base by embodying white grievance, and had enough professional backing to get the Republican nomination. He knows more about development than politics. I'm not saying he's a good developer, its a low bar to clear, and absent money laundering (something else he understands) he would never been sucessful as a developer after going through his dad's money.
