This matches my feelings about Platner note-for-note, explained much better than I possible could. I can see the appeal of a burly guy in a flannel shirt seemingly unafraid of anyone or anything to a consultant class desparate to crack the Republican code of white male support.
"Female" gets coded as "weak" by people who don't understand women and see performance as reality. Like Hegseth for example, or consultants focused on selling an image. The Platner story to me is all about people selling something, Platner selling himself to himself, consultants selling that Platner to Platner, then both of them selling that Platner to voters. Politics is sales, but the ideas here were a means to an end rather than an end themselves. Maybe that's why the cumulative weight of scandal brought him down, the ideas were't there to hold him up, they were just marketing tools.

I too had an odd itch about the guy, felt he was inauthentic in spite of his authenticity. I am more disturbed that it was the junior consulting class of the ninety-year-old new york fools that put him up to it. There lie my chagrin with all participants, myself included
