Obviously the Trump economy would consist entirely of speeches about breakfast cereal and communism while billionaires run the table. But it is fun to think of them building these Freedom Cities for real, thereby giving Montana and Utah and Wyoming an urban population mainly of Californians, flipping them blue.
Bundys will make money leading faux cattle drives for the bored offspring of the FreerThanThous, while the Freest of the Free struggle to find anyone willing to work their shithole cities for starvation wages...
Biden always seemed to embody Mark Twain's advice: "Do what you think is right. It will please some people and astonish the rest".
On the Israel thing, it gets overlooked that early on he would mention his greatest worry was the violence spreading, and getting more out of control. That might have been a bigger focus than getting Israel to lighten up on the whole genocide thing, over which the US has far less influence than everyone assumes. Cutting military support would have been morally satisfying, but I imagine Israel would have found ways to continue "destroying Hamas" without having to answer US phone calls anymore.
I like the housing laundry list, though I'm a bit suspicious of loans "up to" an amount that would not be 5% of the price of any unit in some very expensive markets, and wonder if that means borrowers will be able to get "up to" an amount that doesn't do anything no matter where they live (because presumably there will be local COL weighting).
Shutting down the rent data brokers would be an excellent outcome but I'm not completely clear how that could work in a world where the 1st Amendment has any force at all. But then IANAL.
Shitcanning any tax breaks gotten by AirBnB owners (who don't also use the property themselves at least part of the time) is another excellent idea that shows a grasp of current issues.
Completely agree with your assessment of the transition. Biden chose the person he thought most qualified to beat Trump and continue the progress of his administration. Trump displays many attributes of serious cognitive disability, unlike Biden: perseveration, confabulation, self-contradiction, among others. Funny NPR isn’t focused on that.
Looking more closely, maybe the prompt was "make a cover for a post-apocalyptic Roger Zelazny novel"
I notice the car is way out of proportion to the people, and the Statue of Liberty seems to be pasted on top of the Lincoln Memorial. Please carry on with on-topic discussions.
I didn't know this was also a "Literary Corner"! What a delightful surprise.
The first line almost has a Paul Simon meter (à la "Still Crazy After All These Years").
Always upvote ths Literary Corner. It's the onoy way to consume Trump's rambles.

If they take that BLM land to build Freedom Cities, where will the Bundys run their cattle?
Oof.

Thanks!
I'm with you - I think Joe planned it and his team executed the plan perfectly. He could have won but this is better.
I think Donald may spontaneously explode or burst into flame when a black lady beats his ass. With votes. Though I have no doubt
she can meet his ass.
Nice column!
Seeing that art I have to run, not walk, to post "If that is AI art I wonder what was the prompt."
I would have bet on a '70s or '80s cover for a Roger Zelazny novel.
AI is what the substacker I stole it from said.
