"“mass assassination factory"

"The kind of thing you can easily imagine Robert S. McNamara or Donald Rumsfeld deploying with delight, a very businessman way of thinking, or avoiding thinking, with a technology that didn’t exist in their times."

"they don’t intend to kill anybody else in particular. That is, they have an idea of approximately how many people they are going to kill, but they don’t know who, so you can’t say any of the deaths that actually occur are “intentional”.

"The lack of intentionality in that sense isn’t an index of how much they care (“the most moral army in the world”) but of how much they don’t."

Thank you for reiterating the Habsora info and injecting straight into the aorta of this enterprise. We're not witnessing only an enormity of vileness – it's much more – ordures of magnitude.

This is the best summary I've read to date and encapsulates the central hollowness of the leadership of that nation. We support them at our moral (what's left of it) peril.

Kudos. 2 marks do not begin to convey...

Megadittos, as Yogi Berra liked to say to Mickey Mantle when he was hung over. The freaky thing is the Israelis clearly have embraced the idea that this is all justified, that the righteousness of ther goal makes the collateral damage acceptable to them. From the outside its brutal and borderline sociopathic in that best-and-brightest way of seeing war as an antiseptic process to manage. I've read all the arguments why this brute-force solution to their Palestinian problem is their only option, but even if that's true they're gonna pay a far higher price than they can imagine.

I've been struggling with "Not that I want to minimize the horror of this killing" ... but this is not the first time Israel has killed Americans: a Palestinian/American aide worker assassinated during an act of piracy on the high sea during the Obama admin; an American student activist run over by a Cat D9I dozer during Bush ... look up up the USS Liberty, they killed American sailors

I'm sure there's more I don't know about and at best there's a pattern

Liberty was a US Navy research vessel they attacked in 1967, claiming to have mistaken it for an Egyptian ship, killed 34 American officers and seamen plus a couple of Marines and a civilian scientist. It was during the Six-Day War (US was neutral). But with these it's not so much that some of them were American, it's that they were BRINGING FOOD TO STARVING HUMAN BEINGS.

Sam Bankman-Fried would at least have tried to calculate the odds involved in this attack, and would then have applied some weighting algorithm to decide whether or not to blow up the half dozen verified non-combatants along with the probabilistic conjectured terrorist.

Ya see? SBF is human and might well have decided, in consideration of Israel's treaty obligations, not to fire. Maybe he should be spared a few days off his 25-year sentence on these grounds!

I thought you said there weren't going to be story problems on the mid-term.

Yes, and then they're recruiting new Hamas members every day, burning with a desire for revenge.
