I think most Antivax folks are depending on everybody else to get their kids vaccinated so their precious Liam and Luna don't have to risk soiling their precious bloodstreams.

Oh no, these are the people still holding chicken pox parties for their unvaccinated spawn.

Said Spawn will be SO THRILLED to get shingles later in life, because that's an absolute walk in the park.

That's if they haven't died of any of the other communicable diseases that those evil precious bodily fluid polluting 'vaccines' prevent.

And speaking of 'precious bodily fluids' he also wants to end fluoridation.

[insert obligatory video clip of General Mandrake from Dr. Strangelove]

He ALSO believes that our sky-high death-by-gun problem is caused by: violent video games and antidepressants which is why the rest of the civilized world has banned them entirely thus magically eliminating gun violence.

[places hand on earpiece] "I have been informed that the rest of the civilized world hss solved that problem by removing the guns, not video gmes and antidepressants"

Finally, he wants DOJ investigations into just why the NIH published guidelines that said neither hydroxychloroqine or Ivermectin were at all effective treatments for COVID, even though they clearly were.

[places hand on earpiece] "I have been informed that extensive studies indicated that hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin (both anti-parasitical drugs) in fact have zero efficacy against COVID, and all those morons who gobbled the horse pills shat their intestinl linings out for naught"

"Make Infections Great Again"

Dog help us if we get a new COVID-style pandemic while he's in office.

(It's General Jack D. Ripper. Mandrake is Sellers.)

When Trump was selecting his cabinet in 2016, John Cleese said he wasn't so much staffing a cabinet as assembling the crew of a pirate ship. But this seems like outright trolling. He's not rewarding Gaetz, Stefanik, or Gabbard, because he doesn't reward. Maybe his rationale, to the extent that his deteriorating consciousness can entertain one, is that while they're busy destroying the gov't., he can steal and grift without interference. I think that's nutz, and maybe it, and he, is.

I can't get past the thought that the oligarchic interests that back Trump are not only killing the goose that laid the golden eggs, they're blowing it up with an IED. How is a badly damaged gov't., run by idiot lackies, good for businesss?

I have been wondering about the interplay of these picks, the rise of billionaires as his cronies as well as across borders in Russia and the Middle East, the international surge of fascist and fascist-adjacent governments, and what Yas discerned a couple of years ago as the End of Capitalism. I suspect these picks mean the acceleration of that End, toward a new economic/political reality which might include elements closer to Mercantalism or Feudalism, but which will be a distinctly new, cyber monstrosity where the nation state declines and a handful of people sit at the top of the bitcoin pyramid scheme and explicitly call the shots for the globe.

I don't want to sound paranoid, though.

Certainly something to think about. I'd like a way of talking about it with more economics and fewer weird personalities, or at least to be able to move between the two more smoothly. Thanks for remembering my all-time personal favorite post!

There's going to be a lot of weird personality dust in the air for a while.

And who could forget that post? Easily one of the most compelling items ever yet to reach me through the series of tubes.

It’s not good for markets, but it’s great for deregulating markets so they can create more questionable financial instruments for short term gain & continue the monopolies which crush competition and harm consumers!

MIGA!

The thing about Gaetz that stands out to me is how doormatted he is/will be if confirmed. He'll be beholden to Trump for giving him an out from the house investigation, which means he'll do ANY DAMN THING Big Orange dreams up. Using Justice Dept as life ruiners for any/all potential opponents would be the easiest task for Gaetzy to dig his incisors into. But he's also (if confirmed) on the hook to the Senate Reps who will bombard him with their own mountain of demands.

I have never been a fan of “heightening the contradictions,” but given that things are likely to be terrible for the foreseeable future anyhow, I wonder whether the wisest course of action for Congress (Dems and GOP) wouldn’t be to just agree to recess and let him appoint all the loons he wants. Put the whole thing on him, because you and I and they know it will all go downhill fast from there, and let Trump catch all the sh*t.

Im kind of an outlier on all the advance work being done for when The Circus Comes To Town. Yeah, its gonna be horrible and its kind of the point that no one knows beyond the broadest outlines what they're going to do (which is plenty bad enough). Its chaos, which Trump loves because he thinks he can dance on top of it. I see less than no value in agonizing what Gaetz might do, or if this is some 3-card Monty to get Paxton as AG. It matters not. We're doing what we're supposed to be doing, sputtering like Edgar Kennedy in Duck Soup (a very relevant movie) while Harpo jumps in his lemonade barrel and splashes around. Gaetz's sex crimes might matter, they might not. Its a measure of this age that no one knows until the process happens (if it does. Trump would love to just Declare his appointments like the Sun King, and laugh at all the sputtering).

Agonizing over any of this is a waste of time, and entertainment for Republicans. Your're gonna want to have some outrage available when the round-ups do start, one of the things that checks every box they have. We're going to have concrete acts to confront in a few months.

Genuinely worried about the roundups. A neighbor last week saved my car from trouble when he could have walked right by. I was incredibly grateful, and I would be surprised if that guy's here legally. Am I about to put a 45-year-old 220-lb Mexican Anne Frank in my attic?
