This is of course fantastic. The "Trumpendämmerung" is exactly the point — the narcissistic crisis on the largest possible scale, beyond Napoleon or even Hitler (who at least cared about his country).

I still can't figure out, day to day, why nobody sees it; why the most blindingly obvious panic-driven, impotent, enraged cry for help isn't being seen as such by his supporters or his reluctant partners in the Republican party (the ones "endorsing" him).

The screams in his Truth Social posts about the upcoming seizures — the sheer fury and terror when he types "KEEP YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF TRUMP TOWER!" are so nakedly Freudian that I can't imagine even the dullest of voters not catching it. He's being castrated by a Black woman — it's a nightmare for the entire world; even worse than losing the election.

Can't we all see what's being done to us; how we're being harmed (or we would be were he not "standing in the way"?) It's David Koresh; it's Masada; it's the Nero Decree: burn it all.

I am always edified by how thorough are your perceptions on Trump's mental state. "Trumpendammerung" is both enlightening and hilarious, and at the same time is the most concise description yet (1985-present) of what's going on continually in his head (now worse than ever).

Of course, putting him in power in 2024 will depend on a complementary mental deficiency in millions of voters. I am hopeful that enough voters in enough swing states will remember the chaos of his first term (and note the lack of gay communist gun-seizing in Biden's first term) -- but recent years have for sure changed forever my perception of what most Republicans want. As a friend of mine from Italy says, you don't have to talk to a lot of people before you find yourself talking to someone who thinks Mussolini was the best leader the country ever had.

I just posted my first Substack note — I'm not sure what to do next (I've never tweeted and I'm new to social media except for blogs and my ancient Facebook account).

I will not take those crowd size numbers seriously til I see detailed aerial imagery from the site. I was there, with a bicycle to allow for ranging around much of the crowd, and from the Ellipse to the Capitol, the Supreme Court and back. Based on crowd sizes I've witnessed in other venues that are measured by physical reality (ie number of seats in a stadium). I think 120,000 is way too high.
